The Burton Cross Country team traveled to Cameron Thursday night for the "Midnight Sun" Invitational. Both teams were a little short-handed, as football and volleyball were in full swing as well.
The men fielded three runners as the sun sunk below the horizon. Junior Devlin Douglas took full advantage of the cooler temperature to finish 2nd overall in the Boys 3k race with a time of 10:56. Following his lead were Cadeyn Manely (Jr.) and Mason Helton (So.), who both improved on last week's times.
The women raced a full team of five that finished 4th overall in the Varsity 3k race. Senior Peyton Sigsbee led the way with a 2nd place finish, a medal, and a 12:23 time. Freshman Madeline Dowling finished 8th overall, also gaining a medal with a time of 14:00. Rounding out the Lady Panthers were Kara Landriault (So.), Autumn Applewhite (Fr.), and Avery Applewhite (Sr.).
Burton has a bye week for the Labor Day weekend before heading to Magnolia for the "Dog Pound" Invitational on Saturday, September 7th, at Magnolia High School.
