The Burton Junior High Panthers continued their cross-country season yesterday with a return to the Historic Burton Cotton Gin. The Panthers raced a 3/4 mile loop twice, for a 1.5 mile total, through woods, along Indian Creek, and around the Gin, before finishing. Burton was joined by runners from Somerville, Snook, and McDade.
The girls ran away with a 1st place team finish and captured seven medals along the way. Paisley Goldberg finished first overall in the girl's division, just seconds before her teammate Saniau Ratcliff. Also medaling were Amiau Ratcliff, Isis Schulte, Harper Hodde, Mya Rodriguez, and Halli Casey.
The Panthers faced tough competition from the boys from McDade but ran hard enough to capture their second 1st place finish for the year. Once again, 8th grader Justin Gonzalez finished first overall. The Panthers earned five medals on the day, with the additional awards going to Colton Vickers, Ayden Vogl, James Jarvis, and Matty Countouriotis.
The Junior High Cross Country team has had a change in their schedule due to unforeseen circumstances and will not be running at the Cotton Gin for their next race. Instead, the team will now race on Saturday, September 28 at Overlook Park on Lake Somerville.
