The Burton Panthers traveled to Lake Somerville for the Yegua Invitational last Saturday. The Panthers relished the chance to compete against many of their district member schools. The meet also provided the Junior High and High School teams to see each other in action for the first time. The Lady Panthers started the day, and as always, they did not disappoint. Team Captain Peyton Sigsbee (Sr.) finished 1st overall and was joined on the medal stand by teammate Reagan Roemer (Sr.), who finished 6th overall. Their one-two top 10 punch helped propel the women to a 4th place team finish.
The men followed and Devlin Douglas (Jr.) led the way with a 2nd place overall finish. The men finished 5th as a team.
The Junior High Boys were led by Justin Gonzales (8th), who finished 8th overall. The Junior High Girls were led by Isis Schulte (7th) who finished 1st overall. She was followed in quick succession by Saniau Ratcliff (7th), 3rd overall, Paisley Goldberg (7th), 4th overall, and Amiau Ratcliff (7th), 5th overall. Aided by Rose Nall's (7th) 18th overall finish, the Junior Girls bested all other teams with an incredible 26 point team score (15 points is a perfect score) and a 1st place team finish.
The Junior High teams are off until the 26AA District Meet. The Junior High District meet will take place Wednesday, October 9th at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell. The girls will race first at 5:00pm, followed by the boys at 5:30pm.
The High School teams have one more invitational meet on the season. The Panthers travel to Belton for the Last Chance Invitational October 3rd at Heritage Park.
