Burton advances four to State.

The Burton Debate finalized the district competition this past week.  In their first year of debate competition, the Panthers claimed the top two CX spots, earning them the district's two State qualifying berths.

Leading the way for the Panthers was Team Captain Devlin Douglas (Jr.) with five victories in rounds across the season.  At the State contest, he will be joined by Vivian Layman (Sr.), who racked up three victories of her own.  Both Panthers represented Burton at the State Congress Meet back in January.

On the second-place team, the Panthers advance sophomores Rubi Rios and Amelia Brown.  Both debaters amassed three victories during the debate season.  Alternates for the Panthers are Zach Purvis (Fr.) as the first alternate, with two victories, and Autumn Applewhite as the second alternate l, also with two victories.

The UIL State Cross Examination Debate Tournament will take place on the University of Texas campus on Monday, March 17th, and Tuesday, March 18th.
