The Burton Powerlifting season came to a close on Saturday, March 22nd, at the Taylor Convention Center in Abilene.  The 2025 Season saw the Panthers participate in one of the most competitive Powerlifting seasons, with dozens of State records broken on Saturday.  Jackson Morey was the first of the two qualifying Panthers to step on the platform in the 123-pound class.  The graduating senior finished 10th in the state with a total of 900 pounds: 335 pounds squat, 220 pounds bench, and 345 pounds deadlift.  Mak Odom finished the day's lifting for the Panthers, posting the best three-lift total of his career for a 7th-place state finish in the 132-pound class.  Another graduating senior, Odom, finished the day with an 1100-pound total:  425 pounds squat, 250 pounds bench, and 425 deadlifts.

The Panthers also qualified two lifters for All-State Powerlifting teams this year, the first for the program.  Mark Odom made the All-State Academic Team in the Boy's Division, which looks at a lifter's entire high school academic career and is only eligible to seniors. Avery Applewhite made the All-State Academic Team in the Girl's Division, which uses the same criteria to evaluate potential candidates.
